Aims & Objectives
The main objective of the National Service Scheme is "Development of the personality of students through community service". This objective is sought to be achieved by enabling the students to work in community. The programme aims to inculcate the spirit of social welfare in students and to provide service to the society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people in the villages how to lead a good life, despite scarcity of resources. It also provides help in natural and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster victims..
The NSS is useful not only for the development of the student’s personality, but it also helps promote the unity and integrity of the nation by bringing together young people from diverse geographical and socio-cultural backgrounds.
Therefore, it is necessary to arouse the social conscience of the students, and to provide them an opportunity to work with the people in the villages and slums. It is felt that their interaction with the common villagers and slum dwellers will expose them to the realities of life and bring about a change in their social perception.
